Free Interview
Postpartum Care
  • Providing support for the emotional adjustment to parenthood.
  • Assistance with breastfeeding and/or bottle-feeding.
  • Including information about pumping.
  • Offering support in mother’s physical recovery after childbirth.
  • Demonstration on newborn care, such as diapering, bathing, and swaddling.
  • Helping with gassy and colicky baby and offering coping techniques.
  • Fielding medical and non-medical questions pertaining the newborn care.
  • Education about Kinesthesia – conscious handling of the baby.
  • Assisting with the care of older siblings and helping them adjust to the new family member.
  • Providing support for pet adjustment.
  • Small meal preparation for the mother and family members.
  • Organization of the nursery, changing and feeding stations.
  • Does the baby’s laundry.
  • Running errands and grocery shopping.
  • Light housekeeping such as dishes.
  • Daytime or nighttime services available as well as 24 - hour care for the first 48 hours when you come home from the hospital. Minimum of 4 hours per day and 8 hours per night.
  • 12 hours maximum per shift other than 24-hour care.
  • Guaranteed backup doulas.
The Postpartum Doula
  • Allows mother to rest, shower and nurture herself.
  • Helps mother to eat properly and drink plenty of fluids.
  • Listens and helps process the birth story.
  • Validates the normal adjustment process.
  • Supports father through his transition to his new role.
  • Provides community resources as needed.
  • Educates in infant soothing and coping techniques for parents.
  • Helps parents to develop their own styles of nurturing and bonding with baby.
The Postpartum Doula Does Not...
  • Evaluate mother's or baby's medical condition.
  • Take over the care of the baby.
  • Insist new parents care for their baby in a particular style.
  • Do heavy housekeeping.
